What is Elfolate?
Elfolate is a medical food used to increase the levels of these minerals for people with certain conditions. Folic acid supplements like Elfolate may come in a different form of folates including levomefolate, or methyltetrahydrofolate. They are used to treat or prevent low folate levels which can lead to certain types of anemia. Conditions that can cause low folate levels include a poor diet, pregnancy, vitamin b12 deficiency, alcoholism, liver disease, certain intestinal problems, kidney dialysis, among others. Women of childbearing age should receive adequate amounts of folic acid either through their diet or supplements to prevent infant spinal cord birth defects.
Tell your healthcare provider about all prescription or OTC, natural products, or vitamins that you may be taking as well as any health problems you have.
