What is Drysol?

Drysol is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to help control excessive sweating, also known as hyperhidrosis. The active ingredient in this medication is aluminum chloride hexahydrate, which works by blocking the sweat duct. This medication can be used in areas such as the underarms, hands, scalp, and feet. It comes in the form of a topical solution. Clean and dry the affected area first being using this medication. A thin layer of this medication may then be applied to the affected area, usually once daily at bedtime for two to three days until sweating is under control. Avoid getting this medication in your eyes, and do not apply to broken, irritated or recently shaved skin. If this medication does get into those areas, flush with plenty of water. Use this medication regularly to experience the maximum effect. Talk to your doctor if you do not see an improvement in your condition.

What are the side effects of Drysol?

Common side effects of Drysol include mild itching, tingling, or irritation. These effects may occur when first using this medication but generally go away as your body becomes accustomed to treatment. Consult with your doctor or pharmacist if you experience any of these effects. Many patients using this medication do not have any serious side effects. Serious allergic reactions to this medication are usually rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing. This is not a complete list of side effects. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding other possible side effects or drug interactions. You can report negative side effects to the FDA.
