What is Capmist Dm?
Capmist Dm is a brand-name over-the-counter combination drug for treating the symptoms of cold, hay fever, and other upper respiratory allergies. Capmist Dm suppresses coughing (antitussive), loosens phlegm and mucus (expectorant), and reduces nasal swelling (nasal decongestant).
The active ingredients in Capmist Dm are dextromethorphan, guaifenisin, and pseudoephedrine. Dextromethorphan is an opioid-like drug that reduces coughing by slowing down the part of the brain that causes coughing. Guaifenisin belongs to a class of drugs called expectorants, which reduce nasal and airway congestion by loosening the mucus that builds up inside the airways. Pseudoephedrine is a decongestant that reduces nasal swelling.
Capmist Dm is taken as a tablet every four hours or ½ tablet for children ages 6-12.
