On average, uninsured customers can expect to pay a cash price of $559.73 for an Arixtra prescription. However, $196.72 per 10, 0.5ml of 2.5mg/0.5ml Syringe is all you pay per prescription fill with a free coupon from SingleCare. Arixtra may be available through your local pharmacy, or you may need to use a specialty pharmacy, depending on your insurance.
Arixtra copays vary by insurance plan and the dose prescribed. If your Arixtra is administered by a healthcare professional, it may be covered as a medical benefit rather than a prescription drug. With a free discount coupon from SingleCare, Arixtra costs $196.72, which may be lower than your insurance copay if you have a prescription for Arixtra. Ask your pharmacist to compare your copay cost to the pricing of Arixtra with SingleCare so that you can pay the lowest price.
Arixtra and its generic, fondaparinux, are prescription injections that may be given by your doctor, or you may be trained to administer the injection to yourself. Check with your insurance plan regarding Arixtra coverage under Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D prescription drug plans (or its generic, fondaparinux). For Medicare patients, a SingleCare Arixtra coupon offers significant prescription savings at major pharmacies: CVS, Target, Walgreens, and many others.
Arixtra is a brand-name prescription injection and is available as a generic injection, fondaparinux, from well-known generic manufacturers such as Sandoz, Zydus, and Aurobindo.
Arixtra (fondaparinux) is a prescription injection that prevents blood clots in patients undergoing hip, knee, or abdominal surgery. All of these procedures significantly increase the risk of deep vein thrombosis (DVT: a blood clot forming and then clogging a deep vein, typically in the leg) or a pulmonary embolism (PE: a blood clot that travels to the lungs). Arixtra is also used (in combination with warfarin) to treat deep vein thrombosis and pulmonary embolism right after they have been diagnosed.
The active ingredient in Arixtra, fondaparinux, is an anticoagulant that prevents blood clotting.
Arixtra is started 6 to 8 hours after surgery or within three days of a DVT or PE diagnosis and continued daily for five to nine days. Arixtra is an injection that must be injected beneath the skin and never into the muscles. For this reason, Arixtra is usually administered by a healthcare professional. In cases where the patient has been trained in self-injection, Arixtra is prescribed and can be purchased as a prescription drug in a pharmacy.
Before using Arixtra, talk to your doctor about what side effects to expect and how to address them. Tell your doctor about your medical history and all of the medications you take. This includes prescription and over-the-counter drugs as well as supplements and vitamins.
Arixtra prevents blood from clotting, so the most common side effects of Arixtra are bleeding problems: anemia, bruising, nosebleeds, gum bleeds, bleeding from wounds or cuts, bloody stools, blood in the urine, and heavy menstrual bleeding.
Injection site reactions like bleeding, itching, or rash may occur.
The most serious side effects are complications due to bleeding. Mental and mood changes include confusion.
Patients who take Arixtra and receive neuraxial anesthesia or who are undergoing a spinal puncture are at higher risk for epidural or spinal hematoma which may result in long-term or permanent paralysis. Certain patients are at higher risk. Consult your doctor before scheduling a spinal procedure.
Serious allergic reactions are rare. Symptoms include rash, hives, swelling, or trouble breathing. If you have symptoms of an allergic reaction, seek emergency medical help right away.
This is not a complete list of possible side effects. Your physician should be able to address all your concerns about side effects before you take Arixtra.
Talk to your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice.
