What is Zylet?

Zylet is an FDA-approved prescription eye drop used to treat conditions that cause swelling of the eyes and to prevent and treat bacterial eye infections. This medication contains a combination of tobramycin and loteprednol. Tobramycin is an antibiotic that stops bacteria from growing while loteprednol helps to reduce redness, swelling, and itching by decreasing inflammation.

This medication is meant to treat eye infections caused only by bacteria. It should not be used for eye infections caused by viruses or fungi. In some cases, it may even worsen them. Unnecessary use and overuse of antibiotics can lead to a decrease in their effectiveness. Speak to your doctor before using Zylet to ensure that this is the most appropriate medication for your condition. Your doctor will also be able to advise you on the best dosage plan for this medication.

What doses of Zylet are available?

You should use this medication regularly to get the full benefits. Continue using Zylet for the entire time prescribed by your doctor, even if your symptoms have disappeared. If you change your dose of Zylet or stop this medication too soon, it may allow bacteria to continue growing and reinfect the original area being treated.

What are the side effects of Zylet?

Common side effects of Zylet may include brief stinging and burning of the eyes after the medication is applied and headaches. Most people using this medication do not experience any serious side effects. Using Zylet for repeated or prolonged periods may result in a new fungal eye infection and may also increase your risk for other eye conditions such as glaucoma and cataracts.

You should not take this medication for longer than the period prescribed by your doctor. Tell your doctor right away if you experience discharge, vision problems, allergic reactions, or eye pain while using this medication. This is not a complete list of side effects. If you have questions about Zylet side effects, ask a healthcare provider for medical advice.
