Promacta is used to treat people with low blood platelet counts associated with chronic immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). It is used after other medications or surgery have not been effective. It may also be used to treat chronic hepatitis C and severe aplastic anemia. Promacta is a synthetic protein that increases production of blood-clotting cells in the body. It lowers the risk of bleeding by causing the body to produce more platelets in your blood. Promacta is indicated for use by adults and children who are at least 1 year old.
