What is Polyvinyl Alcohol?
Polyvinyl Alcohol is an over-the-counter eye drop medication used to relieve dry, irritated eyes. Common causes for dry eyes include wind, sun, heating or air conditioning, computer use, and certain medications. This medicine may also contain other active ingredients such as dextran, glycerin, and propylene glycol. Polyvinyl Alcohol works by keeping the eye moist, which helps to protect it from injury and infection. It also decreases symptoms of dry eyes, such as itching and burning.
This medication comes in the form of liquid eye drops. Read and follow all instructions provided on the product packaging before use. Usually, drops may be used as often as needed. Wash hands before use and be careful not to let the dropper touch your eye. Tilt your head back, look up and pull down your eyelid to make a pouch.
