What is Metaxalone?

Metaxalone is a muscle relaxant that is used to treat muscle spasms and pain caused by sprains, strains, and other injuries. Metaxalone is usually combined with rest, physical therapy, and other pain management measures to treat the pain and stiffness in your muscles. Metaxalone works by blocking nerve impulses in the brain that control pain. This medication is not approved for use by patients who are younger than 12 years old.

Do not use Metaxalone if you are allergic to it. If you have anemia or severe liver or kidney disease, you should not use Metaxalone.

Before you use Metaxalone, tell your doctor about other medical conditions you may have including if you are pregnant or if you plan to become pregnant. If you are breastfeeding, you also need to inform your doctor. If you are using other medications you need to tell your doctor, because Metaxalone can interact with various other drugs. You should include all your prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs, supplements, and vitamins.
