Invokamet is a prescription drug used in the treatment of diabetes mellitus Type 2. It reduces the risk of stroke, heart attack, and death in people with Type 2 diabetes and heart disease. Your doctor may also prescribe Invokamet to treat other conditions.
Invokamet is a combination antidiabetic medication. It contains a combination of two drugs: canagliflozin, which is a SGLT2 inhibitor, and metformin, which is a biguanide. These drugs work together to lower blood sugar levels.
Canagliflozin increases the removal of excess glucose in the blood through the kidney. Metformin improves the body’s response to naturally produced insulin. It also decreases how much sugar is made in the liver and decreases the amount of sugar the body absorbs in through the intestines.
Invokamet is used along with a diet and exercise plan to control Type 2 diabetes. It is approved for use by adults over the age of 18.
You should take Invokamet as prescribed by your doctor. It’s important to go over the prescribing information and medication guide before taking this medication. Using Invokamet may increase your risk of yeast infections, urinary tract infections, bone fractures, vitamin B12 deficiency, foot ulcers, or amputations of your lower leg. Invokamet can also cause lactic acidosis, a rare but serious condition that requires hospitalization. Signs and symptoms of lactic acidosis include trouble breathing, stomach pains, nausea, weakness, muscle pain, and dizziness.
You should not use Invokamet if you have severe kidney disease or diabetic ketoacidosis. You should also not use Invokamet if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Let your doctor know about any medications, vitamins, or herbal treatment that you are using. Seek medical advice from your doctor about whether it is safe to use Invokamet while pregnant or breastfeeding.
Common side effects of using Invokamet may include increased urination, headache, indigestion, diarrhea, nausea, and vomiting. Other side effects may include yeast infections of the genitals (penis or vagina) and urinary tract infections. Signs and symptoms of these infections may include burning, itching, fever, unusual odor or discharge, pain, tenderness, redness, and swelling of the genital or rectal area.
Other side effects may occur that are not listed in this guide as this is not the full list of side effects. Consult your healthcare provider for other possible side effects, warnings, and precautions before using Invokamet.
