What is Hymovis?
Hymovis is an FDA-approved medication used in the treatment of knee pain specifically caused by osteoarthritis. Hymovis is usually used as a last alternative after all other arthritis medications have failed. The generic name of this medication is hyaluronan. Hymovis is similar to the fluid that surrounds the joints in your body. This fluid acts as a lubricant and shock absorber.
Hymovis is given as an injection directly into your knee joint. This injection will be administered by a healthcare provider in a medical setting. You may be given more than one injection. If your doctor decides that you need an additional injection, this will be given at least one week after your first injection. Pain relief with this medication should last for several months.
