Follistim Aq is a brand-name prescription drug prescribed to women undergoing fertility treatments. The active ingredient in Follistim Aq, follitropin, is similar to a natural hormone, follicle-stimulating hormone, and stimulates multiple follicles in the ovaries to develop into mature eggs. The mature eggs will be removed by the physician and fertilized in vitro. Successfully fertilized eggs will be implanted in the womb for gestation.
Follistim Aq is also used in fertility treatments to induce ovulation in patients who cannot ovulate.
Follistim Aq is self-administered as a subcutaneous injection once daily during the follicular phase (first sixteen days) of the woman's reproductive cycle.
What are the side effects of Follistim Aq?
The most common side effects of Follistim Aq are site reactions to the injection, such as pain, irritation, redness, and swelling.
