Epipen 2-Pak is a life-saving medical device used by those with serious allergies. Your doctor may prescribe Epipen 2-Pak if you are hypersensitive to certain foods, insects, or medications.
Signs of a serious allergic reaction might include:
Hives
Difficulty breathing or wheezing
Swollen tongue or throat
Dramatic heart rate changes
Significantly low or high blood pressure
Dizziness or fainting
Symptoms of an anaphylactic reaction can appear on the skin and in the mouth, throat, gut, lungs, and heart.
Epipen 2-Pak treats these severe allergy symptoms. Its active ingredient, epinephrine (also known as adrenaline), is a nonselective adrenergic agonist that's injected into the bloodstream. It works by quickly narrowing blood vessels and opening airways, which reverses the effects of an allergic reaction.
Epipen 2-Pak expires 18 months after it's manufactured. Although some studies have found that Epipen 2-Pak can be as much as 84% effective after 50 months past its expiration date, it's important to request a refill of Epipen 2-Pak every 12 to 18 months.
Store Epipen 2-Pak at room temperature. Refrigerating Epipen 2-Pak could damage the auto-injection device.
Epipen 2-Pak side effects include:
Anxiety, nervousness, or fearfulness
Rapid heartbeat
Breathing problems
Tremors
Weakness
Dizziness
Headache
Nausea or vomiting
Although it's a life-saving medication that can improve or reverse symptoms of a severe allergic reaction, you should still seek medical attention after using Epipen 2-Pak. Its active ingredient, epinephrine, can wear off and you can have a second allergic reaction. If you're having an allergic reaction, call 911 or go to the emergency room after using Epipen 2-Pak.
Sometimes the injection site can get infected. Seek medical help if you notice signs of infection.
Epipen 2-Pak is available as a solution auto-injector of 0.3 mg/0.3 ml. Mylan, the manufacturer of Epipen 2-Pak, recommends carrying two doses of epinephrine because as many as 20% of patients with an allergic emergency require a second epinephrine injection. You can buy a two-pack for $143.18 for 2, 0.3mg/0.3ml Solution Auto-Injector of generic Epipen 2-Pak with a coupon from SingleCare.
Those with an Epipen 2-Pak prescription should carry at least one EpiPen auto-injector with them at all times. Carrying two EpiPens is recommended.
Use Epipen 2-Pak after exposure to allergens or at the first sign of an allergic reaction. The ability to quickly recognize and treat symptoms with an Epipen 2-Pak is imperative.
If you're unsure whether you're experiencing an allergic reaction, it's usually better to use Epipen 2-Pak than to hesitate.
Use Epipen 2-Pak in the middle of your outer thigh. Push the auto-injector until it clicks. Hold it in place for three seconds.
If necessary, you can use Epipen 2-Pak through your clothing. Avoid injecting epinephrine in your hands or feet, as it could result in decreased blood flow to the affected areas. Do not use Epipen 2-Pak in the veins or buttocks. Ask a healthcare professional—such as your doctor or pharmacist—for medical advice concerning when and how to use Epipen 2-Pak.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) authorized generic Epipen 2-Pak in August 2018. Epinephrine is the generic version of Epipen 2-Pak. While the brand-name version of Epipen 2-Pak is manufactured by Mylan, generic epinephrine is manufactured by Teva Pharmaceuticals.
The generic is more affordable than brand-name Epipen 2-Pak and it's covered by more insurance plans, including Medicare. Search for epinephrine coupons on SingleCare's website or app to save even more money.
Epipen 2-Pak has a high cash price of $805.49 for 2, 0.3MG/0.3ML Solution Auto-injector without insurance. Even insured customers will likely face high Epipen 2-Pak costs because insurance and Medicare don't usually cover Epipen 2-Pak.
If you don't have insurance or if your health plan does not cover Epipen 2-Pak, you can still save money on this life-saving prescription drug by asking your doctor or pharmacist if generic epinephrine is available. Generic drugs are typically cheaper than brand names and covered by more health insurance plans.
Additionally, uninsured or underinsured pharmacy customers can use a Epipen 2-Pak coupon from SingleCare to lower their bill to $143.18 for 2, 0.3mg/0.3ml Solution Auto-Injector of generic Epipen 2-Pak.
Brand-name Epipen 2-Pak is not usually covered by insurance or Medicare. Most health plans will cover generic epinephrine though. If Epipen 2-Pak is covered by your insurance plans, you could still have a copay. Always compare that copay to SingleCare's lowest price, which could be a higher discount than your insurance or Medicare can offer.
