What is Easivent?
Easivent is a valved holding chamber. This is a type of spacer that includes a one-way valve at the mouthpiece. This device does more than provide some distance between your mouth and your medication. It also traps and holds your medicine, which gives you time to take a slow, deep breath.
Spacers like Easivent should always be used with MDIs that deliver inhaled corticosteroids and other inhaled prescription medications. Spacers can make it easier for medication to reach the lungs, and also mean less medication gets deposited in the mouth and throat, where it can lead to irritation and mild infections.
When using Easivent, make sure you only put one puff of medicine into your spacer at a time. If you put any more than that, the medicine sticks together and then drops to the bottom of the spacer before you have time to breathe it in.
What are the side effects of Easivent?
Easivent is a medical device and does not carry any known side effects. However, some people may experience an allergic reaction to the material used to produce this device or the drug that is being administered through the device.
If you notice signs of an allergic reaction you should stop using this device immediately and seek medical attention. Signs of an allergic reaction can include hives, itching or eczema, swelling of the lips, face, tongue, and throat or other parts of the body, wheezing, nasal congestion or trouble breathing, abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea or vomiting, dizziness, lightheadedness or fainting.
Easivent systems should never be used without first consulting your doctor or healthcare professional for medical advice on dosage, and instructions regarding the correct use of the device.
