Cytotec is a brand-name prescription drug used to prevent gastric ulcers in patients taking NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, like aspirin). The active ingredient in Cytotec, misoprostol, is similar to prostaglandins, hormones that are responsible for reducing stomach acid production. Prostaglandins also promote wound healing, bleeding or clotting depending on the need, and uterine contractions. Cytotec is used off-label (that is, a use not approved by the FDA) to induce labor, reduce postpartum bleeding, induce labor if fetal death occurs in the second or third trimester, and terminate a first-trimester pregnancy. Cytotec cost is normally $106.49 for 0.20, 60 Tablets Bottle. A SingleCare Cytotec coupon reduces that price to $8.99 for 0.2, 60 tablets of 200mcg Bottle of generic Cytotec at participating pharmacies.
Our price history metrics are calculated from aggregate prescription data that we receive from all participating pharmacies. This chart updates daily to show new price fluctuations. If a data point is missing from the chart, it is because we do not have enough data to produce a reliable figure.

Cytotec is a brand-name prescription drug used to prevent stomach ulcers in patients taking NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, like aspirin). Cytotec is similar to prostaglandins, hormones that are responsible for reducing stomach acid production.
Prostaglandins also stimulate uterine contractions, thin the cervix, and promote menstrual bleeding. For this reason, Cytotec is often used off-label (that is, a use not approved by the FDA) to induce labor in pregnant women, reduce bleeding in women who have delivered a baby, induce labor if fetal death occurs in the second or third trimester, and terminate a pregnancy in the first three months of pregnancy.
Cytotec is also used to soften the cervix before a second-trimester surgical abortion. When using Cytotec to end a pregnancy, it is often used in combination with another medication called mifepristone. Mifepristone is given first, and Cytotec is taken 1 or 2 days later. Cytotec is taken as a tablet. To be optimally effective for gynecological off-label uses, the recommended number of Cytotec tablets are put in the mouth and allowed to dissolve against the inside of the cheeks, or under the tongue to allow for direct absorption into the bloodstream.
The possible side effects of Cytotec include, but are not limited to, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, flatulence, constipation, headache, indigestion, menstrual cramps, stomach cramps/pain, and increased menstruation. A rare but serious side effect of Cytotec is severe dehydration caused by diarrhea.
Allergic reactions are possible. Watch for hives, trouble breathing, or facial swelling and get emergency medical treatment if you suspect you're having an allergic reaction to Cytotec.
Carefully follow your healthcare provider’s medical advice and directions for use. Ask your doctor what to expect when taking Cytotec, and report any side effects to your doctor.
