Corlanor is a brand-name drug and ivabradine is its active ingredient. There is no generic version of Corlanor available on the U.S. market.
Corlanor is a prescription drug that is taken to reduce the risk of heart failure in patients diagnosed with chronic heart failure. Corlanor works by lowering the heart rate to help the heart from working so hard.
Chronic heart failure is a serious heart condition that causes the heart to pump blood abnormally. When the heart is unable to pump blood correctly and consistently, your vital organs are not able to receive oxygen-rich blood. Oxygen-rich blood is essential for the body to function.
Chronic heart failure can be caused by a previous heart attack, high blood pressure, clogged or narrow arteries, and pre-existing medical conditions.
It is often recommended to take Corlanor twice a day with meals. However, you should only take Corlanor after talking to your doctor. Your healthcare provider would provide you with professional medical advice concerning proper dosage instructions. You should not change or stop taking Corlanor without informing your healthcare provider.
If you have a history of very low blood pressure, sinus syndrome, sinoatrial block, or 3rd-degree atrioventricular block, it is not recommended for you to take Corlanor. If you have taken or are currently taking any other medicine, you should tell your doctor.
Also, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should let your healthcare provider know before using Corlanor as there are no well-controlled studies on it’s safe use in pregnancy.
Corlanor is available as an oral tablet to reduce the risk of hospitalization for patients with worsening heart failure.
Corlanor may cause serious side effects such as shortness of breath, irregular heartbeat, and bradycardia (slow heart rate). Corlanor can also cause increased blood pressure and temporary brightness in your field of vision.
It is important to note that this is not a complete list of Corlanor side effects. If you do experience these listed side effects or other abnormal bodily changes, you should seek out medical help.
