Cetrotide is a brand-name prescription drug manufactured by EMD Serono Inc. There is currently no Cetrotide generic alternative available.
Cetrotide is an FDA-approved prescription medication used to regulate hormone responses in women undergoing fertility treatment. It is usually used in combination with other hormones. This medication works by blocking the release of certain hormones and helps to stop eggs from being released too early. This allows eggs enough time to grow properly. The ingredient in this drug is cetrorelix.
This medication comes in the form of an injectable solution. Read the leaflet provided with this medication before you start to use this medication for additional information. Cetrotide is applied by injection under the skin (subcutaneously) as directed by your doctor. Before you administer this injection, clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. Rotating the injection site before each dose can help to lessen irritation and injury under the skin. Use this medication as directed by your healthcare provider.
Do not take more of this medication or use it more frequently than recommended by your doctor.
The use of Cetrotide may result in side effects such as headache, nausea, or pain and swelling at the injection site. Talk to your doctor if you experience any of these effects and they persist.
In rare cases, this medication may cause a condition known as ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS). OHSS is the body’s exaggerated response to extra hormones. OHSS can range in severity and may occur during or after treatment. In severe cases, OHSS can cause fluid to suddenly build up in the stomach, chest, and heart area. Seek immediate medical attention if you develop severe pain or swelling in your lower abdominal area, nausea, vomiting, or decreased urination.
If you have severe allergic conditions, Cetrotide may not be safe for you. Consult your fertility specialist.
If you take Cetrotide and have hives, difficulty breathing, or swelling of the face, lips, or tongue, seek emergency medical treatment.
Ask your healthcare professional for medical advice on all of the risks and benefits involved with using Cetrotide, as other side effects may occur.
