What is Vivitrol?

Vivitrol (naltrexone) prevents the effects of opioids, including pain relief and feelings of well-being (high) that can lead to people becoming addicted. This prescription drug is also used as a treatment for alcohol dependence.

Vivitrol injection prevents relapse in users who have become dependent on opioid medicine and then stopped using it. On the other hand, it treats alcoholism by reducing your urge to consume alcohol. This may help you drink less often or stop drinking completely. It should be noted, however, that Naltrexone is not a cure for drug addiction or alcoholism.

You should not use Vivitrol if you are below 18 years old, are using or have a physical dependence on opioid-containing medicines or opioid street drugs, are having opioid withdrawal symptoms, are allergic to naltrexone or any of the ingredients in Vivitrol.
