What is Uloric?

Uloric is a xanthine oxidase inhibitor that is used to treat gout. Gout causes an increase in the levels of uric acid in your joints. When your body cannot get rid of uric acid through your urine, it builds up and forms crystals in your joints. This results in painful and swollen joints.

Uloric tablets work by decreasing the high blood levels of uric acid that your body makes. Uloric should only be prescribed if the use of allopurinol has not been effective in lowering your levels of uric acid. The goal of your treatment is to reduce high uric acid levels to below 6 mg/dL. This helps to prevent future attacks or flare-ups of gout.

You should read your medicine guide and use Uloric only as prescribed by your doctor. In the case of an accidental overdose of Uloric, call 911 or the poison control center. Tell your doctor of all prescription or over-the-counter medications or herbal products that you may be taking. Uloric should be stored at room temperature and away from light and moisture.

What are the side effects of Uloric?

Joint pains, gout flares, problems with liver function, diarrhea, edema (generalized swelling throughout your body), headache, nausea, aching on the right side of your abdomen, tea-colored or dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of your skin or the white parts of your eyes), chest pain, loss of appetite, fatigue, blisters, sores, and rashes are some side effects of Uloric. There are other side effects that you can experience when using Uloric. You should seek medical advice immediately if your side effects persist.

Uloric is indicated for use by adults and should be kept out of reach of children and pets. People with cardiovascular diseases who are being treated with Uloric are at an increased risk for cardiovascular death, and therefore it should only be used if treatment goals can not be achieved with allopurinol treatment You should contact emergency medical attention right away if you notice any signs of an allergic reaction to Uloric.
