Rilutek is an FDA-approved, prescription drug used in adults to slow the progress of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, more popularly known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is a progressive and incurable condition in which the central nervous system nerve cells that control voluntary muscles progressively die off. The active ingredient in Rilutek, riluzole, slows the death of nerve cells by blocking the release of the nerve-signaling substance glutamate, which the body overproduces in patients with ALS. Rilutek may delay the progression of ALS and prolong your life. The retail price of Rilutek is $3,618.62 per 360, 50MG Tablet, but with SingleCare's free coupon, generic Rilutek costs $28.89 for 60, 50mg Tablet.

Rilutek is a brand-name prescription drug prescribed to patients with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, also known as ALS or Lou Gehrig's disease. ALS is an incurable, progressive condition that kills motor neurons, the nerve cells that control voluntary muscles, in the brain and spinal cord.
Nerve cell death in ALS is caused by glutamate, which transmits signals between nerves. However, if too much glutamate builds up, the nerve cells die.
Rilutek slows but does not stop or reverse, the process of neuron death. The active ingredient in Rilutek, riluzole, blocks the release of glutamate by the motor neurons in the brain and spinal cord. Rilutek may delay disease progression and prolong your life.
Rilutek is taken as a tablet. Other forms of riluzole are available as an oral suspension or oral film (a thin film placed on the tongue until it dissolves). Rilutek must be taken at least one hour before or two hours after a meal.
Before you take Rilutek, talk to your doctor about all of the medical conditions you have. Tell your doctor about all the medicines you take, including Rx, OTC, vitamins, and supplements.
The most common physical side effects of Rilutek include weakness, nausea, dizziness, stomach pain, and problems with lung function. Other common side effects include high blood pressure, vomiting, joint pain, dizziness, dry mouth, trouble sleeping, itching, fast heart rate, and cough.
Serious side effects include low white blood cell counts, which puts the patient at risk for infections. Other serious side effects may include problems with the lungs, liver, kidneys, or pancreas.
Allergic reactions are rare and include itching, swelling, rash, and shortness of breath. If any of these symptoms occur, get emergency medical help right away.
This is not a complete list of side effects that may occur. Consult your doctor or healthcare professional for additional information and medical advice regarding possible side effects and drug interactions.
