Is there a generic of Revatio?

Revatio is a brand-name prescription medication manufactured by Pfizer. The generic version of Revatio is sildenafil. You can find coupons for both versions of Revatio by using the search tool on the SingleCare site.

What is Revatio?

Revatio is used to treat pulmonary arterial hypertension. This is a type of high blood pressure that develops in the arteries of the lungs. When high blood pressure occurs in the lungs, the heart has to work harder to pump blood through the lungs. This drug works by relaxing the blood vessels and increasing the blood supply to the lungs. This helps decrease the workload on the heart.

Revatio belongs to a group of medications called phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitors. It works by relaxing muscles and increasing blood flow to the lungs. This helps lower blood pressure in the lungs, improve exercise abilities, and delays any worsening of pulmonary arterial hypertension.

Revatio is only available with a doctor’s prescription and, therefore, should only be used as prescribed. It is approved for use in adults and not recommended for pediatric patients.

You can take this drug with or without food although you should not consume grapefruit or grapefruit juice while taking Revatio, as it may increase blood levels of sildenafil and increase the risk of adverse effects. Store Revatio in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight.

What are the side effects of Revatio?

The most common side effects of Revatio include headache, nosebleeds, stuffy or runny nose, flushing, shortness of breath, trouble sleeping, and indigestion. Other side effects may include diarrhea, muscle pain, tingling in the hands or feet, and raised body temperature.

Serious side effects that require medical help include heart attack symptoms (pain in the chest, jaw, or shoulders, nausea, and sweating), vision or hearing changes, and erections that are painful or last longer than four hours. If side effects persist or worsen, seek medical attention right away.

Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart problems, high or low blood pressure, retinitis pigmentosa, vision loss in one or both eyes, sickle cell anemia, bleeding problems, or Peyronie’s disease before taking Revatio. You should also tell your doctor if you take certain medications like nitrates, riociguat, ritonavir, ketoconazole, itraconazole, or high blood pressure medications before using Revatio.

This is not a complete list of side effects. Talk to your healthcare provider for medical advice before using Revatio to determine if it is right for you.
