What is Ragwitek?
Ragwitek is a prescription drug that is used to treat allergic rhinitis commonly known as hay fever. Ragwitek helps your body develop an immunity to certain pollen. Such pollen may cause allergy symptoms such as sneezing, itching, and watery eyes. The Ragwitek sublingual tablet, which is placed under the tongue, is made from certain pollen that can cause seasonal allergies and work by making your body less sensitive to pollen (such as ragweed pollen, grasses) that typically causes your allergies. Ragwitek can be used in children and adults ages 5 years to 65 years. This medicine will not provide you with immediate relief from your allergy symptoms.
When taking Ragwitek, ensure you check the medication guide for additional informion and to ensure you take your tablets correctly. Your doctor may decide that Ragwitek is not the best treatment for you if you have asthma (that is severe, unstable, or uncontrolled); are pregnant or plan to become pregnant or are breastfeeding; heart disease; high blood pressure; are unable or unwilling to administer epinephrine; or are taking certain medicines, including other allergen immunotherapy. Before taking Ragwitek, tell your doctor about all of your medical conditions, and all the medications you take, including Rx and OTC drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Your doctor will likely prescribe EpiPen (epinephrine) that you carry everywhere with you in case of a severe allergic reaction.
Ask your doctor or pharmacist to show you how to take Ragwitek. The tablet should be placed under the tongue and allowed to dissolve. Do not swallow for at least one minute after placing it under the tongue. Do not chew the tablet or swallow it whole. Ragwitek is usually taken once daily during allergy season, starting at least 12 weeks before allergies are expected to begin. Your doctor will tell you when to start taking Ragwitek.
What are the side effects of Ragwitek?
Ragwitek may cause severe allergic reactions that can be life-threatening, so it is important to get emergency medical help right away if allergic reaction occurs. After the first dose of Ragwitek, you will be observed by your doctor for at least 30 minutes.
Common side effects include throat irritation, itching, lip and tongue swelling, and numbness and tingling of the mouth. Children are likely to experience mouth and throat pain and/or swelling, nausea, stomach pain, altered taste, mouth sores, and diarrhea.
Some of the side effects of Ragwitek usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Be sure to report negative side effects to your healthcare professional as they may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of those side effects.
