What is Promethegan?
Promethegan is an FDA-approved prescription antihistamine medication used to treat allergic reactions and to prevent or treat nausea and vomiting caused by illness or motion sickness. It may also be used to help you feel sleepy or relaxed before and after surgery. Promethegan works by blocking the effects of histamine that your body produces during an allergic reaction.
Promethegan comes in the form of a rectal suppository that is usually used two to four times daily. Remain laying down for a few minutes after using this medication and avoid having a bowel movement for an hour or longer to allow for the drug to be absorbed into your body.
If you are using this medication to treat motion sickness, take your first dose roughly 30 to 60 minutes before you begin traveling.
