What is Mozobil?

The active ingredient in this medication is plerixafor. It is used by patients with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma to prepare them for stem cell transplant. Stem cells, which are found in the bone marrow, turn into red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets. This medication works by helping stem cells move from the bone marrow to the bloodstream so that the cells can be collected and stored. The cells are then infused back into the patient for chemotherapy.

This medication comes in the form of a subcutaneous solution. Before using, check this medication visually for particles or discoloration. If either is present, do not use the liquid. Before injecting each dose, clean the injection site with rubbing alcohol. Inject this medication under the skin as directed by your doctor. This is usually done about 11 hours before the blood-filtering procedure.

Your doctor will recommend an appropriate dose for you based on an assessment of your current medical condition, other drugs you are currently taking, and your response to treatment. Carefully follow your doctor's instructions on how to use this medication correctly.

What are the side effects of Mozobil?

Mozobil may cause diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, gas, dizziness, or pain and redness at the injection site. Tell your doctor if these effects persist or worsen. Most patients using this medication do not have serious side effects.

Serious allergic reactions to this medication are usually rare. However, you should seek immediate medical attention if you begin to experience symptoms of a serious allergic reaction such as itching, rash, swelling in your face or throat, severe dizziness, tightness in your chest, or trouble breathing.

Ask your doctor or healthcare provider for professional medical advice on the risks and benefits involved with using Mozobil as this is not a complete list of side effects.
