K-Phos is a brand-name prescription tablet containing monopotassium phosphate and, in K-Phos 2 and K-Phos Neutral, monopotassium phosphate and sodium phosphate. A generic version of K-Phos 2 and K-Phos Neutral is manufactured by Rising.
K-Phos is a prescription mineral supplement with monopotassium phosphate. It comes in three formulations: K-Phos Original (monopotassium phosphate), K-Phos 2 (monopotassium phosphate and sodium phosphate), and K-Phos Neutral (monopotassium phosphate and two forms of sodium phosphate). It is used to neutralize urinary pH in patients whose urine is too acidic (low pH) and eliminate excess calcium from the urine. It is prescribed to patients with or at risk for calcium kidney stones.
Phosphate neutralizes the acid in urine and contributes to the excretion of calcium from the urine. High acid and calcium levels in urine lead to the formation of calcium crystals (kidney stones).
K-Phos is administered as a tablet.
While not a complete list, the most common side effects of K-Phos are nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach pain, headache, dizziness, muscle pain, joint pain, bone pain, and numbness. Allergic reactions are very rare.
