What is Flibanserin?

Flibanserin is an FDA-approved generic prescription medication used to treat Hypoactive (low) Sexual Desire Disorder (HSDD) desire in women who have not gone through menopause. This medication is not meant to be used to treat low sexual desire caused by medical disorders or by the effects of other drugs. This drug works by raising levels of norepinephrine and dopamine, which both help to increase sexual desire. It also lowers serotonin which is a chemical that usually suppresses desire.

Flibanserin is available as an oral tablet that is usually used once daily at bedtime.
