What is Anagrelide Hcl used for?

Agrylin is a prescription drug used to treat patients diagnosed with a blood disorder known as thrombocythemia. It causes the bone marrow to make too many platelets to produce bleeding problems and blood clots. Agrylin works to minimize the number of platelets formed in the bloodstream by preventing their production.

How to take Anagrelide Hcl

  • Store the medicine in a closed container at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct light.

  • Missed dose: Take a dose as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, wait until then and take a regular dose. Do not take extra medicine to make up for a missed dose.

  • Take your medicine as directed. Your dose may need to be changed several times to find what works best for you.

  • This medicine is not right for everyone. Do not use it if you had an allergic reaction to anagrelide, or if you have severe liver disease.

  • Your doctor will do lab tests at regular visits to check on the effects of this medicine. Keep all appointments.

  • Do not stop using this medicine suddenly. Your doctor will need to slowly decrease your dose before you stop it completely. The platelet levels in your blood will increase when you stop using this medicine.

  • Talk with your doctor before using this medicine if you plan to have children. Some women who use this medicine have become infertile (unable to have children).

  • Keep all medicine out of the reach of children. Never share your medicine with anyone.

  • This medicine may cause the following problems:Heart rhythm problems (including QT prolongation)Pulmonary hypertension (high blood pressure in the lungs)Increased risk of bleedingInterstitial lung disease

  • Do not breastfeed during treatment with this medicine and for 1 week after the last dose.

  • Tell your doctor if you are pregnant, or if you have kidney disease, liver disease, bleeding problems, or lung problems. Tell your doctor if you have any type of heart disease or condition, especially heart rhythm problems.

  • Allergic reaction: Itching or hives, swelling in your face or hands, swelling or tingling in your mouth or throat, chest tightness, trouble breathing

  • Chest pain, coughing up blood

  • Fainting, dizziness, or lightheadedness

  • Unusual bleeding, bruising, or weakness

  • Trouble breathing

  • Rapid weight gain, swelling in your hands, ankles, or feet

Less Serious Side Effects

  • Diarrhea, gas, nausea, stomach pain or upset

  • Cough, runny nose, sore throat

  • Headache
