Zubsolv is a trademarked brand-name drug that's manufactured by Orexo U.S., Inc. Generic Zubsolv is not available.
Zubsolv is used for the treatment of addiction in opioid and opiate users. It is a sublingual tablet that consists of a combination of buprenorphine (an opioid agonist-antagonist) and naloxone (an opioid antagonist).
Buprenorphine works by preventing withdrawal symptoms in patients. Naloxone, on the other hand, blocks the effects of opioids and opiates and causes opioid withdrawal when injected. Buprenorphine-naloxone is given as a combination drug to prevent abuse and misuse of opioids.
It should be noted that the use of buprenorphine alone can cause physical dependence with chronic use. Using Zubsolv sublingual tablets on patients who use full agonist opioids such as methadone, oxycodone, and heroin may worsen withdrawal symptoms and signs.
For best results as an addiction treatment, Zubsolv is recommended to be used as part of a treatment program along with counseling and psychosocial support.
Some common side effects of Zubsolv include constipation, diarrhea, headache, and nausea. These side effects may be more likely to occur if you mix this medication with depressants such as alcohol, tranquilizers, and other opioids. Provide your primary healthcare provider with a list of all your prescription and over-the-counter medicines, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Zubsolv tablets can be habit-forming and you should not use them longer than prescribed.
Inform your healthcare professional if you are breastfeeding, pregnant, or plan to become pregnant, as using this treatment could cause life-threatening withdrawal symptoms in an infant using breast milk.
Also inform your primary healthcare provider if you have ever had a head injury, seizures, brain tumor, drug addiction, kidney or liver disease, mental illnesses, breathing problems, lung disease, or urination problems, as using this medication may worsen these problems.
This is not the full list of side effects. Allergic reactions and drug interactions are possible. Ask your doctor for additional information before using Zubsolv to determine if this medication is right for you.
