What is Migranal?

Migranal is an FDA-approved prescription medication that is used for the acute treatment of migraine headaches. It belongs to a group of medicines called ergot alkaloids. It comes in the form of a nasal spray. Migranal is not a general pain reliever and cannot be used to treat pain other than headaches. Migranal narrows blood vessels in the body and this can lead to serious effects that may decrease blood circulation to parts of the body. You should ask your doctor about the risks involved when starting Migranal for the treatment of migraine headaches. Migranal is not safe for everyone. Before taking Migranal, tell your doctor about all of the medical conditions you have and all of the medications you take. This includes prescription and OTC drugs, vitamins, and supplements. Migranal should not be used in people with a history of heart disease, chest pain, heart attack, stroke, or problems with blood circulation. Migranal should not be used in people with heart disease, uncontrolled high blood pressure, severe kidney or liver problems, a serious infection, or a recent heart or blood vessel surgery.

You should not consume grapefruit juice while on treatment using Migranal as interactions may occur. Migranal is only approved for use in adults. It has not been studied in children under 18 years old.Migranal is only available with your doctor's prescription and therefore should only be used as prescribed by your doctor.

For best results, you should use Migranal as soon as your headache starts. Lying down in a dark, quiet room may also help relieve your pain. Migranal may cause abnormalities in an unborn baby. Let your doctor know if you plan on becoming pregnant or are pregnant. Store your Migranal prescription at room temperature away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight, and keep out of the reach of children. If you have pain that is not like your usual migraine pain, call your doctor or get emergency medical attention.

What are the side effects of Migranal?

The most common side effects of Migranal include local irritation, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, altered taste, dizziness, vomiting, sleepiness, diarrhea, and numbness and tingling. Severe allergic reactions are rare but may include hives, trouble breathing, and swelling of the mouth, lips, and face. If symptoms of an allergic reaction occur, get emergency medical attention right away. You can ask your doctor about other side effects linked to Migranal use as you can experience some not listed.

If you experience chest pain or high blood pressure while on treatment using Migranal for migraines, contact your doctor right away. You can report negative side effects of this drug to the manufacturer and FDA.
