What is Gavilyte-G?
Gavilyte-G is a prescription colon cleanser prescribed to patients clear the colon prior to a colonoscopy or barium enema. The active ingredient in Gavilyte-G, polyethylene glycol 3350 (or PEG-3350), is an osmotic laxative that draws water into the colon. Gavilyte-G is taken every ten minutes with plenty of fluids until the only fecal discharge is clear water, at which point it is discontinued.
Gavilyte-G also includes electrolytes (sodium chloride, potassium chloride, sodium bicarbonate, and sodium sulfate) to ensure that there is no net loss or gain of electrolytes or water in the body.

What are the side effects of Gavilyte-G?
