What is Epiceram?
Epiceram is a brand-name prescription skin barrier repair and moisturizer cream prescribed to patients with eczema and other atopic dermatoses. The skin repair ingredients in Epiceram include ceramide, cholesterol, and fatty acids. These substances help strengthen the skin barrier, improve the appearance and elasticity of the skin, and help to treat or prevent eczema and other dermatoses.
The other active ingredients in Epiceram include surfactants (palmitic acid), dead skin removers (citric acid), skin protectants (squalane, dimethicone, linoleic acid), skin barriers (squalane, petrolatum), humectants (glycerin), emollients (glycerin, PEG-100), and antimicrobial agents (phenoxyethanol).
Epiceram is applied to the affected area 2 times a day or as needed.
What are the side effects of Epiceram?
Epiceram is classified as a medical device rather than a drug. Some but not all common side effects of Epiceram are primarily allergic reactions to the active or inactive ingredients and include skin redness, itching, burning, or irritation.
