What is Enbrel Sureclick?

Enbrel Sureclick is a brand-name prescription drug, Enbrel, packaged as pre-filled pen injectors. Normally, Enbrel is injected by a healthcare professional, but Enbrel Sureclick can be purchased in a pharmacy and self-injected by the patient.

Enbrel is used to treat active rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis (arthritis of the spine), and psoriasis, a condition in which skin cells grow ten times faster than normal and build up into dry, scaly patches. All these conditions are caused when the body's immune system “overreacts” and starts attacking healthy tissues as if they were infections, causing swelling, stiffness, and pain.

The active ingredient in Enbrel Sureclick, etanercept interferes with a particular chemical called Tumor Necrosis Factor, which “signals” the immune system to release substances that cause swelling in the joints or the skin. Allergic reactions are rare but can be severe and include lupus type syndromes.
