Dofetilide is a generic prescription medication that is used to regulate heartbeats in patients who suffer from atrial fibrillation or atrial flutter. It works by slowing down nerve impulses in the heart. This medication is only available with a doctor's prescription and therefore, should only be used as prescribed. You should not take more or less of this drug as it may raise the risk of unwanted side effects. Dofetilide works best when there is a constant amount in the body. Therefore, you should take your doses at the same time every day. Dofetilide is approved for use in adults. Safety and efficacy in children has not been established. Before starting this medication, you will be admitted to the hospital to run tests to make sure it is safe for you to use Dofetilide. Then your heart rhythm will be monitored for 3 days to ensure the correct dosage is prescribed. You can take Dofetilide with or without food.
