Diclegis is a prescription drug that relieves nausea and vomiting in pregnant women who have not improved with changes in diet or other (non medicinal) treatments. Doxylamine and pyridoxine, the active ingredients in Diclegis, work to reduce the effects of morning sickness. Doxylamine is an antihistamine that blocks histamine in the body, which helps nausea and vomiting. Pyridoxine, also known as vitamin B6, also helps prevent nausea and vomiting.
Diclegis is available in the form of an oral delayed-release tablet. The oral delayed-release tablet is available in 10 mg-10 mg strength. It is recommended for pregnant women, over the age of 18 years old, to take Diclegis on an empty stomach with a glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break Diclegis tablets. Before using Diclegis, have a conversation with your healthcare provider to know if Diclegis is the best prescription medication for you and your unborn child. You should only use Diclegis as directed by your healthcare provider.
Diclegis has several side effects including but not limited to: drowsiness, dizziness, upset stomach, diarrhea, and difficulty sleeping.
Diclegis is not approved for pregnant women with hyperemesis gravidarum, a severe type of nausea and vomiting during pregnancy.
You should ask your doctor about other possible side effects before using Diclegis. You can also make a report of your side effects to the FDA by calling 1-800-FDA-1088.
