What is Cipro?

This medication belongs to a class of antibiotics known as fluoroquinolones. It works by targeting DNA synthesis to stop bacteria from making copies of themselves. Cipro is a bactericidal antibiotic that directly kills bacteria and clears up infections. Cipro comes in the form of 250 mg and 500 mg oral tablets. It is also available as a 250 mg/5 mL or 500 mg/5 mL oral suspension. Your healthcare professional will prescribe a dosage based on an assessment of your current medical condition and the type of infection you have. It is recommended to take  this medication with plenty of fluids, unless otherwise directed by your doctor.
