What is Centrum?
Centrum is a non-prescription family of multivitamin, multimineral, and protein supplements. The product line includes multivitamin/multimineral supplements for children, adults, and seniors. The Centrum product line also includes specialty multivitamins, such as Centrum Specialist Heart and Centrum Specialist Energy. Centrum also includes a family of protein powder shake mixes with vitamins and minerals.
What are the side effects of Centrum?
Side effects will depend on individual products, their formulations, and the inactive ingredients used. Taken as directed, side effects of Centrum are very minimal and almost never experienced. The minerals in Centrum, such as iron and other metals, may cause constipation, diarrhea, nausea, or indigestion. Protein powders can cause nausea, cramps, bloating, thirst, and fatigue.
Adverse side effects of Centrum usually are the result of overdose or continual excessive use, which may cause nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, stomach cramps, constipation, and headache, but more serious side effects are possible with very large overdoses. In addition, heavy metals such as iron are toxic at high levels. You should be aware of the Upper Limit (UL) (the highest possible safe dose) for vitamins and minerals when taking supplements and take them only as directed.
Allergies are a small risk, particularly allergies to inactive ingredients, so discontinue use of Centrum|| if you notice an allergic reaction such as itching, rash, hives, or trouble breathing.
